Greencross Vets Why should I join Puppy Preschool?
Puppy Preschool is a fun and interactive behaviour training program run by our puppy trainers. It is an excellent starting point for any pet owner wanting a well-mannered and socialised puppy.
Over the course of this program, you will be taught the best strategies to communicate with your new family member and learn to understand what they are saying to you. There will be plenty of time in each session to ask for advice and receive individualised feedback on you and your puppy’s progress.

What you need to know about Puppy Preschool
Our puppy preschool is completed over 4-5 weeks, with each session lasting for 1 hour.
Classes are kept small with only 4-8 puppies per session, so the trainer can maximise their support of your puppy’s individual learning. Homework will be assigned each week, but don’t worry, it will be fun and help to reinforce the training you and your puppy have learnt in class.
The training area is completely disinfected before and after each session to ensure a clean and safe learning environment for your puppy.
Is my puppy eligible for Puppy Preschool?
Only puppies who are between 8-16 weeks old at the time of the first class can be enrolled into our Puppy Preschool as this is the crucial development phase for puppy training and socialisation.
All puppies are required to have had at least one vaccination 2 weeks before the first class. Book an appointment at your local Greencross Vets if your puppy has not been vaccinated.
Your puppy must be free of fleas, ticks and worms to safeguard their health as well as the health of the other puppies in class.
What you and your puppy will learn at our Puppy Preschool
Puppy training includes:
- Calming and handling techniques
- A puppy’s view of the big wide world
- How your puppy learns
Basic manners and cues such as:
- Sit
- Come
- Drop
- Stay Lead Walking
Advice on common ‘unwanted’ puppy behaviours such as:
- Toilet training
- Crying at night
Troubleshooting challenging puppy behaviours such as:
- Biting
- Jumping
- Hyper-activity
- Separation behaviours
Like humans, puppies all learn at their own pace, and our Puppy Preschool helps to set a solid foundation for them to build on as they develop into confident and obedient adult dogs. They’ll be on their best behaviour in no time!

Greencross Vets Puppy Preschool is run in conjunction with Petbarn and classes may be held at selected Petbarn stores.
We are pleased to re-commence our classes however please note that due to social distancing requirements we have limited class sizes. Only one member of the family may attend with each puppy until social distancing laws are further relaxed.
